If you are suffering from the summer heat and would like to get a better night’s sleep, you might want to make some adjustments to your evening routine and your bedroom. If you’d rather be in the cold than the sunshine, you might be able to turn your house into a safe and cool refuge using the below tips.
If it is simply impossible to keep your bedroom cool, you might want to get a portable air conditioner. If you already have an HVAC system installed, it might be a waste to keep it on all night just to cool your bedroom down. Therefore, there are two things you can do, depending on your budget. You can wet your curtains using a spray bottle, so you create a natural air conditioning when the air blows through the open window, or get a small mobile air conditioner you can move around the house.
Only Open the Windows in the Morning and at Night
It is also important that you keep the windows closed when the sun is beating down on them during the day. You don’t want the hot air to steam inside the room, as your job of cooling down the house will be so much harder. Instead, make sure that you wait until the air outside is colder than inside before you open your windows.
Bedroom shading should not only be decorative but also practical. Next time you decorate your bedroom, make sure that you choose thermal blinds or curtains that block out the heat and the light. You don’t want to be waking up at 4 a.m. just because the sun has risen. You can use the curtains to insulate your bedroom and keep it cool and dark during the day, making it more pleasant at night when you are going to sleep.
Of course, your mattress will need to be adjusted to your needs, too. Choose one that circulates the air, and you can even get cooling mattress toppers, so you don’t sweat while sleeping. Change Your Bedding
It might also be a good idea to change your all season duvet to a summer, light one, or even remove the duvet completely and sleep under a sheet or a duvet cover. You might not be able to fall asleep without a cover, but this will keep you feel safe and protected without weighing your body down. If it is extremely warm in the house, you might want to use a cold water bottle to cool your feet down or spray a bit of cold water on your sheets to reduce the heat.
If you would like to sleep better in the summer heat, make sure that you try the cheap and simple changes first before you would invest in an expensive-to-run air conditioner.
