There are plenty of reasons to get rid of unhealthy habits. You’ll look and feel younger, you’ll burn excess fat and lose weight and you’ll even save some money on your grocery shopping bills. However, we know that it’s difficult to beat those unhealthy habits of yours, and that’s why we believe in replacing them with a lesser evil and slowly working them out of your system.
So in this post, we’ve put together a couple of healthy alternatives to the most common unhealthy foods that we see today.
Potato Fries -> Sweet Potato Fries
Regular fries are usually high in fat due to the oil they’re cooked in, and even oven-baked fries can have relatively high amounts of salt and can be considered empty calories. It’s far healthier to just eat baked potatoes or even boiling them and turning them into a mash, but if you absolutely love your fries then consider sweet potato fries instead. They’re much higher in nutrition like beta-carotene and they’re full of vitamins.
Chocolate -> Dark Chocolate
Chocolate is typically loaded with sugar to make it sweeter. If you find yourself with a bit of a sweet tooth, then substitute regular chocolate for dark chocolate. It’s far better for you because it contains less sugar and is highly nutritious. It’s also full of antioxidants which is great for helping you maintain a young complexion. Of course, you shouldn’t stuff yourself with dark chocolate, but treating yourself to it is a great way to kick out your sweet tooth habit.
Cola -> Sparkling Water
Many people get most of their calories in through cola and other sweet drinks, but did you know that fruit-flavored sparkling water is a fantastic alternative that’s low in calories and much higher in nutrition? As long as it’s not flavored with sugar or artificial flavors, you can find much healthier sparkling alternatives that are full of fruity flavors but low in sugars and other additives. Just be sure to check the labels and nutritional information to ensure what you’re buying is actually healthy.
Beef Burgers -> Chicken or Vegetarian Burgers
Beef burgers are often full of fat and when you consider adding a slice of cheese on top and some sauces, you can easily rack up the calories. If you want something healthier, consider trying a vegetarian burger. Better yet, why not replace the beef patty with something like a grilled chicken breast? Not only is it lower in calories, but it means you can put on a larger piece of chicken.
Potato Chips -> Popcorn
Popcorn is a cinema favorite, but it’s also a favorite of healthy people. Popcorn has far less saturated fat and if they’re lightly salted or sprinkled with just a tiny bit of sugar, it can still taste great can give you a similar crunch to potato chips. It’s high in fiber, low in calories and can easily be made at home. Just avoid the sugar-loaded varieties like caramel or toffee. So the next time you’re craving a light snack, try popcorn instead.
