A kitchen remodel can be amazing. It can give new life to your home. It can increase it’s valued massively, and it can help you to create a cool family kitchen, where your household can spend time relaxing, unwinding and having fun, together. Designing a kitchen that you love can encourage you to eat a healthier diet and to cook fresh food more often, it can help you to spend more time together as a family, away from screens and devices and it can help you to fall in love with your home again. It certainly has many advantages.
But, it can also be incredibly hard work. Especially if you’ve got a large family and young children. Your house might be a mess, and you might be without a kitchen during your kitchen remodeling. While it’ll certainly be worth it in the end, it can cause chaos. Here are some tips to help you and your family survive the work.
Most of us have got a lot of stuff in our kitchen. It’ll all need moving out before work starts. So, instead of just packing it all up randomly, take the time to get organized. Separate your boxes into things that can be thrown away or donated, things that can be put into storage until your new kitchen is ready, and things that you need day to day.
Label all of your boxes with as much detail as you can so that things are easy to find when you need them.
Set Up a Temporary Kitchen
There are some things that you can manage without. All of your baking equipment can go into storage, you and live off basic meals and supplies and even use a launderette. But, you still need a kitchen of some kind.
Set up a basic kitchen in a room where you’ve got a little space, like your dining room or lounge. Install your fridge and convert a table into a work surface for the short term.
Prepare Meals in Advance
Preparing meals in advance means that you can continue to eat well during the remodeling, without having to worry too much about cooking. All you’ll need to prepare a family meal is a freezer, a microwave and plates, and cutlery.
Think About Washing Up
Many people consider cooking and preparing food but forget that they’ll have to wash up after. Where are you going to do it? Taking them outside to rinse can be an option. But, using your bathtub gives you more space and makes the job easier. Just make sure you wash any harsh washing up detergent out before anyone has a bath.
Let Your Standards Slide
It would be lovely to eat healthy and nutritious meals all of the time and to sit down to eat as a family every day. But, sometimes, the hassle just isn’t worth it. While you are having work done in your kitchen, enjoy ordering some takeout’s and eating out some nights. Make the most of the break, and look forward to getting back into your kitchen when you can.
